Work 2023

My background as a graphic designer plays an important role in my love affair with quilting and stitching. My life-long obsession with typography and grids is evident in my original designs. I often begin by creating sketches in Adobe Illustrator. My sketches are a starting point and help me find rhythm and balance in the composition as well as work out different color stories. However, because of the abundance of free-motion stitching that I add, the final pieces vary dramatically from the concept sketches. My process is a combination of playing, planning, and improvising. I feel most satisfied when I am responding authentically and intuitively to the materials. In each piece, a story will eventually emerge. Finding the narrative, and keeping that process alive and in-play through the completion of the work, is the challenge that keeps me coming back for more.
